Shangri La Xian

I came to Xi'an on short notice to see the Terra Cotta Soldiers, but I left with so much more. I had asked Shangri-La Hotel to help arrange a day tour as my stay was only for two nights. The hotel went above and beyond my expectations with their concierge and arrangements. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly, making our visit very endearing. Oscar was very helpful in arranging the tours and Julia was quite attentive service for our stay there. I thoroughly enjoyed the classic Shangri-La atmosphere, especially the beautiful birds in the lobby. The room was comfortable, and the bathroom was well outfitted with strong water pressure and hot water. I was pleasantly surprised with the turndown soup at the end of the day—it added a nice local touch to a good night's sleep. Breakfast was wonderful, with a wide variety of local selections. I would highly recommend Shangri-La Hotel Xi'an and would come back again.

My recent stay at the Shangri-La Hotel, Xian, presented a mix of impressive aesthetics and some practical considerations. The hotel was recently built, opening in 2007, and its architecture is a splendid classic Chinese style. This grand design creates a very imposing and traditional atmosphere, though I must admit it is not exactly my personal style, as I tend to prefer more contemporary aesthetics. Nevertheless, its traditional grandeur is undeniable. Upon entering my room, I found the accommodations to be very basic for the price point. While clean, they lacked the luxurious touches and modern amenities I often associate with a hotel of this caliber. A particular issue arose with the shower. The design was too flat, causing it to drain slowly and resulting in a constant puddle around my feet during use. This made showering less comfortable and certainly felt like an oversight in design. On a positive note, the staff was consistently very helpful. They were always eager to assist with requests and provide information about the hotel and the local area. However, I did encounter instances where they told us conflicting information about hotel policies. This led to some confusion regarding certain services and amenities, requiring us to double check details, which was a minor inconvenience. Overall, the Shangri-La Hotel, Xian offers a visually impressive and culturally rich experience with its classic Chinese architecture. While the rooms were quite basic for the price and the shower drainage was an issue, the helpfulness of the staff generally made up for these points, despite occasional inconsistencies in policy information.

Location is relatively quiet and away from the hustle and bustle - not much convenient stores or food options nearby. Hotel room exterior & lobby is very grand and inviting. However, rooms are dated & felt a little bit dusty in the rooms’ air. Bed was comfy & the room size is more than comfortable for 2pax. Service was okay, but while checking in, staff mentioned we will be roomed nearby (larger group, multiple rooms) but when arrival. All rooms were very far apart. Staffs need to be more aware to assist.
