Shard Riverside Hotel Bar & Restaurant

Live locally, went for Sunday lunch, a birthday treat. We have been previously and received good service, yesterday was lacking. We were left waiting for over an hour after ordering our food, one waitress came over with the card machine and asked if we wanted to pay. We informed her we hadn’t yet eaten, and we had noticed other tables, sat after us, had received their food. Apparently there was a kitchen printer issue. I found it incredible that no one picked up on us waiting with no food, they walked past us several times to take food to other tables. The food when it arrived was average, meat was delicious, vegetables undercooked, and cauliflower cheese had a very watery sauce, which I did mention when the waitress asked if all ok. The manager did come over just before we paid to say he had taken off some drinks and reduced our bill by £10, the cauliflower cheese side order had been left on, obviously this feedback wasn’t passed on. For me the damage was done, and my birthday treat was ruined. Maybe if the manager had come over when the error had occurred, apologised at that point, he would have probably found out it was a special occasion by talking to us, and he could have made sure the rest of our time with them was enjoyable to make up for the error. We will give it another try, I hope they read this review and take onboard my comments.

Visited for a wedding close by. The rooms are very basic with poor lighting. There’s a decent set of tea/coffee and biscuits to choose from in the room, but missing tissues and some other small touches. Breakfast was very disappointing with limited options, overcooked eggs and it wasn’t tasty. The staff were very unwelcoming and curt. The room where breakfast is served is nice but the acoustics are terrible and the background noise made it difficult to hold a conversation on our table. The bar is stocked well and there’s a lovely outdoor seating area overlooking the river. Based on our experience, we won’t visit again.

Not a quality hotel for the high price per night. Breakfast was covered in fat grease, eggs not fried properly. Cutlery was dirty and the table was was sticky with the no cover. Chairs dirty stained and crumbs left on the table. Some table had left over Breakfast on the table, plates, cups, forks etc. Morning staff wore unkempt clothes, food traces. Night restaurant staff were superb, in service, manner and not arguing, like the Breakfast staff. Fire information on door of room should be made clear to read. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel, unless they changed the standards. Sorry
