Sheraton Colonia Golf & Spa Resort

WE LOVED IT! we had an excellent stay at the Sheraton Colonia. The resort is fantastic, we played footgolf and pool, swam, massages, the whole bit. The breakfast is amazing!!! Really great quality, super selection. The menu restaurant food is good and doesn't really seem too much more expensive than other things around town. (Even the grocery stores are very expensive here.) It surely isn't cheap but it's not out of line with hotel food. I suppose there are better restaurants in town, especially for the evening meal but it is fine, decent quality and such a nice environment. We ate after the warm water pool closed at 10 pm. So lovely to swim under the stars... The room was large and clean and exceptionally comfortable, even for 4 of us (2 adults, 2 teens). It's true that a hot water/coffee machine would be welcome in the room... The area around the property is peaceful, surrounded by natural beauty of the region, the birds and trees and welcome breezes from the river. We borrowed bikes and rode into town (free!l). We explored Colonial on bike, it's about 20 minutes? ride... Also went to the beach a few blocks away to swim in the river... for this it's better to go a few minutes away where the sandy beaches are extensive. Personally I really enjoyed visiting Colonia this way. Staying here was so relaxing it made it worth every penny. And I'd have to emphasize that the best resource of this place is the excellent, excellent staff who made us feel at ease and welcome in every request, in every situation they smiled they were relaxed and friendly. A super special shout out goes to Andres at the front desk. What an excellent way to start our vacation checking in with someone so friendly, kind, and smiley! Thanks to you Andres and everyone for providing such wonderful service. The staff really made our stay great. We hope to return and would recommend to everyone and anyone.

We stayed as a couple and were looking to relax for several days in Colonia, and chose the Sheraton for its resort-like atmosphere. The amenities were great for us and we made use of the pools and gyms and the resort is in a beautiful location. Unfortunately, the service level and maintenance of the hotel is not 5 star standards and the hotel is badly in need of cosmetic updating. However with some polishing up (refreshing the rooms, decor, and renovating some outdated sections), this is truly a gem of a property. The location is very special and we had a wonderful time after getting a new room as the first one had some housekeeping issues. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here if taking kids as the resort is incredibly kid and family friendly. Just be prepared for this hotel experience to be what you make it / don't rely on a high-end hotel service levels where all your needs will be met.

Where to even start...only way this hotel is 5 stars is if it's on a 15 star system. Marriott needs to dump this property. Carpets in rooms hopelessly stained with who knows what. Pools are not maintained to acceptable levels and dirty. Pool chairs are old and tired. We had dinner in their restaurant, ordered a steak and when it arrived it was wrapped in melted plastic. They actually grilled the steak in plastic. Since we didn't want to die we sent it back and were assured they would make a new one without wrapping it in plastic...then brought out the same steak just with plastic removed. We got the heck out of there. Nowhere else to go unless you have a car...stay here at your own peril!
