Shima Onsen Yoshimoto

A gorgeous ryokan experience. The vibe at the house is quiet and stylish. Our room had a private onsen, just the perfect size for us. It was really nice to enjoy the heat of the water on our balcony while looking at a gentle snowfall. The public bath was beautiful as well, with both in and outdoor onsen. They have a private bath available also. The dinner was extraordinary. Our first take at a kaiseki meal, and we were delighted. The person serving us was really helpful and understanding, with great english! All in all a great stay, and we felt truly welcome!

Stayed in the Kiri room. Very spacious, beautiful garden view with outdoor seating, nice outdoor onsen bath with a view of the hills and river. Delicious many course dinner served in our room made of local ingredients, fantastic selection of sake made in the area. Hotel staff are all very kind and friendly, speak a little English, for which we were very grateful, despite managing our best broken Japanese in Tokyo. A wonderful escape from the busy hassle of the city.

This place is quite famous for Onsen and we were not disappointed. The ryokan was quite small, only 8 guest rooms threrefore the service was excellent since we arrived. The onsen was excellent. they have private onsen for 2 people and normal onsen for guest both indoor and outdoor (with very nice view of Momiji). The best part was dinner in kaiseki style. There were plenty of dishes all of which was very delicious with very nice service by ryokan staff. the room was quite large with toilet. We had a very good sleep and enjoy the view from the room. The breakfast was also very good indeed and very tasty. We did enjoy our stay very much. Although it was not cheap to stay for 1 night but it is much worth your money. Excellent.
