I thoroughly enjoyed staying here! The staff were extremely kind and accommodating, and the room was very clean. I stayed in a Japanese-style room and had fun with that experience. The onsen bath facilities were really nice as well. I loved sitting in the outdoor baths and looking at the trees and the waterfall features. When booking a room here, make sure you make a reservation ahead of time for the free shuttle bus service that picks up from either the Kameoka Station or the JR Kameoka Station. Also, make sure to make a reservation for dinner and breakfast. The food was really good and traditional.

The outdoor communal Onsen baths are absolutely stunning, with serene natural surroundings. There are a variety of baths to enjoy. Nice amenities for post-bath. I don’t personally see the need for booking a private bath—the communal baths were empty most of the time we were there, and they are undoubtedly more impressive than a private bath. The Onsen was unequivocally a highlight of the trip. The property itself is beautiful, with a stream running through the striking lobby and a calming library. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff set-up beds for you on the tatami mats during dinner. Staff were friendly. Unfortunately, they don’t have a vegetarian / vegan Kaiseki dinner—however, the staff were kind enough to allow BYOF (bring your own food). The ryokan is only a very short train ride away from Kyoto, and a convenient shuttle service is provided for transporting guests to-and-from the Kameoka train station.

As a family with young kids we have had a great experience! Especially the dinners and breakfasts were an amazing Japanese experience and of highest quality! We also enjoyed the onsen while probably being their youngest guests. The Japanese style room was great. Only the location was a bit far off and there wasn’t anything to do around the hotel. We were told that there’s a bear which makes hiking dangerous. I cannot share any concerns about thefts from other reviews here on Google. We used the safe.
