We loved the Sylvia hotel! We had a room with two queens and a twin, which is hard to find, and was perfect for traveling with our teenagers. The staff is excellent- friendly and helpful. The location is great, a short walk into Stanley Park and across the street from the beach at English Bay. It’s close to a wide variety of restaurants and stores. The restaurant is beautiful, with great views. Breakfast was delicious, and we enjoyed live music on several nights of our stay. We would highly recommend the Sylvia!
We had a great time at the Sylvia. I would love to rate it a 5 however a couple of things keep me from doing so. But first… the check in was great and the people at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel location is second to none and access to the beach area is phenomenal as it is literally across the street in the heart of English Bay. The restaurant is great serving excellent food. The hotel is very pet friendly and they really mean that as there was no issues with having a large dog occupying the hotel. The room was big and easy to get around. The downside is there isn’t air conditioning and since we were there during a hot spell the room was very hot and uncomfortable, especially for our pet, and opening the windows and running the fan that was provided only helped moderately. The other issue was the second elevator was down and appeared to be for a while. Longer waits for a single small elevator proved to be inconvenient at times. Overall outside of these important points and if you can overlook them I would still recommend this hotel.
I didn't choose this hotel, someone else in my party did. This hotel is historic, and pretty. As a place to visit, it's neat for the history. The restaurant has good food. As a hotel to stay at... The staff is very nice and accommodating. Helpful at every request. The elevators are small and slow. The rooms are weirdly laid out. The bed I found uncomfortable. There is no ac, just a fan. Was one outlet with both plugs taken up by the TV and the cable box. Fortunately I have my own splitter I travel with. The windows didn't dampen the sounds from outside very well. It absolutely felt like staying at a hotel from the 30s. It absolutely did not feel like staying at a modern comfortable hotel.
