Sligo Southern Hotel & Leisure Centre

My parents love the Sligo Southern so it's our hotel of choice as a family. My folks are in their late 80s/early 90s now, so we appreciate the outside lift from the carpark & disabled parking spaces. The hotel and rooms are pretty accessible and staff go out of their way to ensure that all guests can access the facilities. On a recent trip, one of my folks needed help accessing the swimming pool and the leisure team were brilliant - no fuss, professional and really helpful. Rooms are spacious, absolutely spotless and have good facilities. Staff and service are first class. The hotel is close to the centre of town. But to walk there you have to brace yourself for the slowest series of traffic lights ever -so many of them! Not the hotel's fault. We'll keep coming back.

Definitely one of the nicest looking hotels we've ever stayed at. Service was very good. Location was easy to get to. The room was spacious and lavish. Generally was very good. Most of the only minor-ish complaints was from the building itself, possibly due to the age, unsure. The shower water kept changing from steaming hot to cold during the shower with no warning. The lights seemed to have a quirk of not turning on if both switches for the bath and bed room were flipped at once except one time where the bedroom lights kept flickering concerningly. The windows that we couldn't open up fully without them dropping down again searched for any latch or the like. Oh and around 11PM had to close the windows because someone sounded like they were moving chains and tanks around outside our window for quite a while. Lastly and most minor was the disappointment of no room service. These complaints are mostly small or not super important but they were the things we noted and gave us pause.

Well where do I start. A 4 Star hotel they said. No Bar fridge, no drinks, no toiletries. That is surely not a 4 star hotel. This was a very noisy place, day and night. The room doors didn't close on their own, consequently everyone slammed them at all times of the day and night. Twice at around 3am. The housekeeping staff were chattering loudly outside our door and in other rooms which were not at all soundproof. We could hear other guests performing bodily functions day and night. The dining room/Bar had good food and two very surly female bar staff. Thank you Daniel for your cheerful attitude and help. Thank you to the supervisor and staff in the breakfast room. I didn't get the supervisors name but he reminded me of Charles Parnell. Full marks to his staff. Lastly Thank you to the the cheerful man who helped us with our cases. There is only limited lift service available. The rest is you have to carry your gear up and down steps and stairs. The bathroom needs lots of attention and as for the shower, well the bath in which it is located has a very slippery base that is protected by a paper mat. There is no mat to allow you to get out of the bath. You have to hang on for dear life when you climb out on to a wet floor. Definitely not four star But you can guarantee the price is Four Star.
