Sofitel Biarritz Le Miramar Thalassa Sea & Spa

It’s the little things that make a BIG difference and in the case of our stay the Sofitel - it all added up to creating a magical holiday. Whilst there were many things to love, it was undoubtedly the phenomenal hospitality of Lilas at the front desk who elevated our experience. This trip away was a family holiday for my birthday, which was made more meaningful by Lilas incredible thoughtfulness, generosity and warmth. Anything she could do to make it special, she did, with grace, class and kindness. It’s hospitality at its finest… thank you Lilas for helping make a special holiday that much more memorable. We recently stayed at the Hôtel Miramar Thalasso in Biarritz and had a wonderful experience overall. The staff were very professional and welcoming, and the quality of the spa treatments (soins) was excellent, relaxing and delivered with real care. The breakfast was good, with a wide variety of options and great quality. It was a perfect way to start the day. That said, the view from our room was a bit disappointing, especially since it was my birthday and my wife had kindly requested an upgrade. Unfortunately, that request wasn’t fulfilled, which was a bit of a letdown. The hotel itself is slightly dated in terms of decor, but it still offers a charming and comfortable atmosphere. Despite the room view, it’s definitely worth a visit especially for the service, spa experience, and good location.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. A wonderful location and friendly staff, but the building is ridiculously outdated and looks like it hasn’t had any upkeep since the 90s. There is a nice outdoor swimming pool, but the indoor facilities are small, randomly dispersed and not well maintained, even with bits of walls falling down (see photo). Worst of all they upsold us a “room with sea view” when it seems like all rooms actually have a sea view, and then the terrace doors are so old they aren’t double glazed and don’t close properly either, so the sound of the roaring ocean will keep you awake at night. We booked two nights but left after the first night as it was so unpleasant.
