Sofitel Chengdu Taihe

Lovely hotel room. When we chose to pay for the breakfast up-front we were given an upgraded room, which also gave up access to the executive lounge. As with many hotels in China, the hardware is great but the staff softskills are lacking. At breakfast our hot drinks were delivered with no stirring spoon and the supposedly hot breakfast was Luke warm. The freshly cooked eggs however, were delicious. Front desk were friendly and helpful.

Lightweight Luxury by the River While this property doesn’t exude the over the top frills and fancy that you get to see at some of the SOFITEL properties around Asia, it comes fitted with all the standard Luxury elements and creature comforts to make your stay in Chengdu pleasant. LOCATION: Lovely location right next to the River and with easy access to the arterial highways of the city. DINE + DRINK: Nice Lobby level Bar and a couple of Fine dining restaurants on site. Didn’t get to eat the breakfast so don’t know how it was ROOM: I stayed in 1909, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Lovely View of the River and the cityscape; SIZE: Very spacious suite room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Spa quality cosmetics FACILITIES: Compact Gym with a basic range of weights and Cardio machines, a bit dated though but enough for a good workout. Sweet Swimming pool perfect for a lounging dip or a workout swim SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to the sweet staff at the front desk HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free high speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment in multiple languages . The best part were the multiple PLUG POINTS supporting all kinds of Plugs from the world!! Super cool.

Hotel lobby looks nice. Rooms were ok. Very dark and dingy, some of the lights felt a bit too warm. On top of that, the hotel only has heating on in the winter, and the heater cannot be adjusted. The room became too oppressively hot and stuffy. Reception were rude and unhelpful when we called to ask about it. So we ended up turning the heater off and opening a window... which unfortunately was very noisy due to the busy road below. The hotel breakfast was a very generous spread with good variety, in a comfortable restaurant.
