If you value service that exceeds every expectation, stay in this hotel! It have been more than a pleasure to meet Elywn Cheung. His service is the best I’ve ever seen!! We stayed for 3 nights and he helped us for every needs and suggests with a really professional approach and support.
As a hotelier, I usually don’t give bad reviews to hotels because I know how hard it is to run hotel operations. I feel that Sofitel should have done better at this hotel. I had two separate stays during one trip with a break to another city and stored my luggage here. The entire experience definitely does not come close to what I had expected for Sofitel. Front desk had a snobbish type of attitude to say the least. Amenities cleanness and breakfast were fine. The Gym was a huge disappointment - strange layout, old limited equipments as if a temporary shelter instead of a fitness center. The biggest disappointment is in the lacking of maintenance, at least in the rooms that I stayed in - see attached pictures. Hope they will improve but for now, I am checking out and do not feel like to return anytime soon.
Sofitel Shanghai North Bund - Style Without Substance I recently stayed at the Sofitel Shanghai North Bund, and while there are a few positives worth mentioning, the overall experience left much to be desired for a hotel claiming 5-star status. The room was a generous size, nicely designed, and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable, and the overall decor was modern and elegant, providing a pleasant first impression. Housekeeping did a good job maintaining the cleanliness throughout the stay. However, the service and amenities quickly fell short of expectations. Despite being two rooms away from the lift, I could clearly hear the lift music every time someone pressed the button a frustrating and persistent noise issue that disrupted the peace you’d expect in a luxury hotel. There was no turndown service, no welcome drink, fruit, or wine, which is unusual for a Sofitel. Even basic items like lotion, bath salts, or a razor were missing and had to be requested every night definitely not the seamless service one would expect. The executive lounge was underwhelming, offering little to justify its premium. Even more disappointing was being offered an upsell on sticky rice cake at breakfast, something that felt more like a street-side promotion than a luxury dining experience. Service across the board was disheartening. Restaurant breakfast staff seemed unmotivated and disengaged, with no sense of hospitality. It felt like no one actually wanted to be there, which translated into an uncomfortable dining environment. In summary, while the rooms are well-appointed and clean, the lack of basic 5-star services, poor soundproofing, and unenthusiastic staff overshadowed the stay. A beautiful shell, but missing the heart and soul of true hospitality.
