An amazing and unexpected stay :-). Coming to Solar de Serrade is wonderful. The great vineyard is the base. What makes it absolutely 6 star is the warm and friendly service from the people - a special thanks to Sofia. Wonderful rooms, quiet surroundings and homely breakfast. And of course, great wine tasting.
Such a fantastic, peaceful oasis that's hidden away near Monçao, in the heart of vinho verde country. The hotel itself is glorious in a quaint and dated kind of way, but outstandingly charming nonetheless. Take one of the suites to enjoy the best views, and spend the day in the garden with a bottle (or three) of the wonderfully crisp and refreshing wine they produce.
This establishment will appeal to some but not me. This was the first night of my tour, so I needed to ease into things. Instead, I end up several Km out of town with no car and no Portuguese language skills for a taxi and they don't serve dinner. The people were very nice but only one had any English language skills. No A/C and mosquitoes if you open the windows. Some of this is not the hotel's fault. It is what it is. My tour company should not have booked me here.
