The breakfast is noteworthy. Lots of options. Cereal and eggs to match the taste of my kids, but also Taiwanese food. The variety of drinks were fun to sample. The rooms were comfortable. The bathtub made for a relaxing enjoyable bath which many hotels with only showers can't provide.
Sonnien offers a solid product for the given price point. It’s definitely not your “special kind of hotel”, but the location is great and the rooms have a good standard. What struck me the most was that the receptionists don’t greet, which I find off - given they are right next to the entrance. The breakfast is of OKish quality with highlights and let downs. The jams are clearly artificial, while the noodles are quite nice. The coffee is the worst I have ever had, so I would eat at the hotel, but get the coffee opposite at 7-eleven. Here a true let down is that no food is marked for dietary requirements. No allergens, no religious pointers, no vegan / vegetarian pointers. As the hotel is right across the road from my husband’s family, we will definitely stay again.
We stayed in the Sonnien Hotel for 4 nights, and in the last night, we had guests for the first time move in beside us. At 12am their TV woke us both and at 5:30 the new neighbours again woke us by talking and letting their door slam twice. So be informed the walls are very thin. [I attached a quick video on how the sound came through] The bathroom toilet paper dispenser is too far back to get the paper off it, so we placed it on the ledge beside the toilet. The dining area is part of the lobby area, which is crowed at meal times. The selection of food is just adequate, nothing to brag about. The service in our room was quite good. Our room was quite cool so we got a portable heater. They replaced our bath towels and put new sheets on the bed. So if you want a bit of a money saver place to stay and do not mind the outstanding irregularities this place may be for you. Otherwise, you may want to stay clear of this one. 🤔 The one plus of the Sonnien Hotel is that there are police stations on both sides of the hotel.
