I’m not sure about the pricing, because I went for a work trip that was covered by the company — but it was a lovely stay! Kind and helpful staff. Clean and comfy rooms. Beautiful decor, with great accommodations like a record player in the room and a delicious drink offered in the lobby. I had a great stay and will likely come back to The Sophy when I revisit Chicago on my own (depending on affordability, of course)

The hotel is beautiful, rooms were nicely spacious. HOWEVER, they have a few policies that are not friendly to guests. First, the hotel lobby closes, yes closes at 10:30p. You cannot use the bathroom, you cannot sit at the tables in the dining section and most of the lights are turned off. Yes, turned off. You cannot sit and talk comfortably because it is so dark. Next, you cannot eat in the lobby. You can drink but you cannot eat. Finally, the front desk person was less than helpful. When we asked for forks (that did not come with our delivery food), the security person helped to find forks for us, not her, then once we opened our food to eat it, that is when we found out we couldn't eat in the lobby. I've stayed here before and had a great experience, but this experience will give me pause the next time I come to Hyde Park.

Worst Hotel Experience Ever – Avoid at All Costs! I rarely leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, everything went wrong. First, the check-in process was a nightmare. The front desk staff was completely uninterested in helping, and after waiting 20 minutes to be acknowledged, I was handed my room key without any explanation. No information about amenities, breakfast hours, or even directions to my room – just a cold, disinterested handover. The room itself was no better. It was dirty, with stains on the sheets, dust on the furniture, and a broken air conditioner that made a loud rattling noise all night. When I called the front desk to report it, I was told “maintenance would get to it” – that never happened. The staff was unhelpful at best and downright rude at worst. I requested an extra towel and waited over an hour before calling again. When I spoke to the manager about my issues, they acted like I was the problem, offering no apology or resolution, just more excuses. Overall, this hotel was a complete disaster. Poor service, filthy rooms, and unprofessional staff make it clear that they don’t care about their guests. I’ll never be returning and highly recommend you look elsewhere if you value your time, comfort, and sanity.
