Lovely, characterful, relaxed hotel. Everything is excellent quality and the staff are wonderful.

This hotel, well situated close to the harbour between the railway station and the castle, offers effective and kind service. Room was very quiet in spite of car and train traffic nearby. Parking in a public subterranean parking house a few hundred meters from the hotel is not optimal but understandable considering the crowded area.

A very disappointing mid-week stay for several reasons: 1. Loud Construction. At check-in, I was informed that there would be construction until 5PM and again starting at 8AM. The construction was incredibly loud and started back up at 7:25AM (!!). 2. Lack of Privacy. There were workers on scaffolding with a direct view into our room which made it impossible to have our curtains open during daylight hours. 3. Inadequate Climate Control. Thermostat had an error message. Our room was stiflingly hot. Couldn’t crack window for fresh air because of construction. Even at night, there was rustling around the scaffolding (source unknown) that made it hard to sleep and have window cracked. 4. “King” Bed. I understand king beds here are often two smaller mattresses joined together. However, I’ve never experienced a such a large gap between mattresses, insufficiently padded with weak foam. My child and I slept sideways for safety reasons (I had him by the headboard and didn’t want him rolling off). This meant my lower back was right at the crevice between the two mattresses. When I shared my disappointment with the concierge at checkout, he merely thanked me for the information and told me he’d inform the construction workers. Smaller nuisances I did not expect at a 4-star: dated room, powdered coffee, no usb plug. The current construction is clearly necessary to update the hotel to 4-star standards, but there needs to be more thought to customer experience during this period of time. Breakfast was serviceable and room was clean.
