Great experience from start to finish. Booked directly via telephone as we had dog as well as us. Helpful and supportive to get best deal and we paid ahead for room. Location amazing both the surroundings as well as the building itself; a lot of work clearly goes in to maintenance and keeping things sharp/smart. Yes it's an old building but great work and wonderful details in lounges, dining room, etc. Staff very helpful and happy throughout. It's a very dog friendly place as well and great walks in the grounds help. We used bar, dining and breakfast and there was nothing wrong for us throughout. I think the staff and atmosphere almost encouraged people to talk to each other as well, as we had a few chats with other people who were touring from US as well as having just a few days stop over. Thank you to all the staff for making it a great stop-over for us.

Beautiful building, but the surroundings are even better. Fantastic walks and views. The staff are unbelievable, so friendly and warm. The most dog friendly place we've ever been. Our pup loved it as much as we did. This place gets under your skin and when you leave, you can't wait to come back.

Stonefield Castle, built in 1837, is a beautifully preserved historic residence turned hotel. Just a few minutes from Tarbert and about 10 minutes from Kennacraig Ferry Terminal (gateway to the Hebrides, including Islay), it offers stunning views over the bay. We stayed in Room 30 – spacious, comfortable, with a modern bathroom and a cozy bay window overlooking the water. The historic interiors, with original antiques, create a very special atmosphere. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent, with freshly prepared regional dishes and spectacular views from the glass-fronted restaurant. Breakfast combined a small buffet with cooked-to-order local specialties. A perfect place to relax in a historic setting – and an ideal stop before heading to the islands!
