Excellent service, very good breakfast, nice view .... The bedroom did not had night tables or night lights accessible from the bed. The light switches were placed in strange spots, making you to test several times until you find the right one. The bathroom did not had an accesisble electric outlet (the only one was used by the hair drier) Very minimalist furniture to the extreme
It's ok, not great though. All sorts of small things that quickly start compounding and getting on your nerves: the kettle with a lid that won't close, no latch on the restroom stall in the public area (and I was told that in the ladies room it's the opposite: you could accidentally lock yourself in, so be aware). In other words, it's your typical average beach hotel. On the bright side: the food is good, large selection of vegetables, so vegetarians among us won't feel left out), lovely views from the rooftop, swimming pool under the open sky, and vast seascape in front of you easily compensates for minor inconveniences. Universal outlets in the rooms that will work with the US and EU plugs are a plus!
My family stayed at the Mercure Santos Hotel last year and was very satisfied. However last month my stay was very disappointing. The room was extremely rundown and had a "sour" smell. The wifi connection did not work most of the time and my queries to the staff went unanswered. One night we had dinner in the hotel's restaurant and were amazed at the mediocrity of the dinner. It was tasteless and I would not recommend it. Also, be aware of the 2PM check-in policy (why so late?). In fact, our room wasn't ready until after then. I'm not sure if I'll give the Mercure another chance.
