I loved it. Was in BT for a short while and could not find a Cafe that served alternative milks, went here. Great service, great coffee options plus you get a muffin To go with each purchase
⭐ 4.5 – A Historic Landmark & Hub for Malawi Tourism I recently stayed at Mount Soche Hotel, now operating under the Sunbird brand, and found it to be both steeped in history and perfectly suited for modern travellers. 📌 History & Heritage Originally opened on 1 February 1969 and officially inaugurated on 19 April 1969 by President Hastings Kamuzu Banda, the hotel was a landmark as Malawi’s first internationally‑standard establishment . Built for £500,000 with 100 rooms, it expanded in July 1979 by adding 50 twin rooms, rising to a total of 148 . Over time it grew into a 130‑room, four‑star hotel, marking its 50th anniversary in 2019—a milestone celebrated by hosting dignitaries like Nelson Mandela during the 2004 SADC meetings . Today, the property boasts the Soche International Conference Centre (SICC), opened around late 2019–2020. This modern facility seats 600–800 guests and supports multi-language interpretation and global‑class events . 🌟 Tourist & Economic Importance Located at the northern end of Blantyre’s business district, overlooking the lush tropical gardens and Ndirande Mountain, Mount Soche is ideal for both business and leisure travellers . Beyond the city, the hotel arranges excursions to nearby attractions—Zomba Plateau, Mulanje and Thyolo tea estates, and national parks like Majete and Lengwe . It plays a vital role in supporting Malawi’s conference tourism and enriching experiences of both domestic and international visitors. 🏨 My Experience The mix of classic architecture and modern upgrades—conference halls, spa, gym, restaurants, and bars—strikes a perfect balance between elegance and functionality. During my stay, I enjoyed the serene poolside garden and the convenient access to Blantyre’s commercial centre. Staff were welcoming, facilities excellent, and the blend of historical prestige and current amenities truly stood out. ⸻ Summary: Mount Soche is more than just a hotel—it’s a cultural and tourism icon in Malawi, bridging its post‐independence history with present‐day hospitality. It’s a top choice for anyone seeking heritage, comfort, and access to Malawi’s iconic landscapes—all in one place. Highly recommended!
Very old rooms, unhygienic and disappointing with what they offer. The management is excellent but some of the staff act very sleepy and not very welcoming. The price of the room 168 usd for a basic room was s stealing from people pure broad day light theft. Very sad as not much is offered with that amount. Tight bathroom. Small room all that’s worth it is the restaurant which you still need to pay.
