Had an absolutely fantastic time at Surfsand. I was lucky enough to find a great deal on a random Thursday to stay here when I otherwise usually couldn't afford it. The room was clean and gorgeous, by far the nicest I've ever stayed in with a big comfortable bed and many indoor accommodations. The deck in the Puffin Building where I stayed was described as a partial view but I could fully see Haystack rock and a good portion of the beach from it, which was an awesome surprise and made it even more worthwhile. The bathtub was huge with scorching hot water that provided a personal sauna experience that I could never have at home. I also received two free drinks and fresh baked cookies. I highly recommend staying here if you can afford it.
We have stayed here several times, returning recently. The location is perfect as you can easily walk into town. The facilities are great with an indoor pool and well equipped fitness center- and right on the beach. The smores bonfires and daily cookies are nice extras. Housekeeping always replenished bottled waters and toiletries. Very generous with towels (which I LOVED). A few recommendations: the website needs an update- to be clear, they do offer lovely suites with a king bed in a separate room, with separate living room with pull out bed. We thought this was what we had booked but then weren’t really sure when we went back to look at website. Photos are misleading. Also, our check in and check out experiences weren’t great. I think they need better organization for room bookings and payments. Other than that- it’s a very nice place to stay- oceanfront rooms are really the best.
Customer service was excellent upon check-in and our room was actually available early which was awesome! feel like the pictures online are a bit misleading though, perhaps they were taken when the renovations were fresh. I definitely would not have paid $500+ for a night here when I could have had an even better location and basically the same quality at a hotel in Manzanita for half the price. I thought I was paying for luxury. The entrance to our room (4207) felt like it was in a creepy, dark corner. We couldn't get the TV to work and had to call the front desk who sent maintenance. Turned out the cable box had been shoved behind the TV (perhaps to hide the light on it when a priority guest was sleeping?) but the maintenance guy was great and showed me how it worked once he reconnected the box. The star lamp didn't work. The sheets felt cheap. The bed was squeaky. The pool was a redeeming quality as it was warm and clean but when we came back to our room you rinse off, I couldn't help but notice that the bathroom wasn't very clean. Throughout the room it just looked like people had been really hard on stuff; chips in the sheetrock, crooked wall sconces, loose threads all over the bathroom mat. It was just okay for a place to sleep. Definitely not worth what I paid.
