The hotel is beautiful, pretty rustic feel from the old Swahili days. Food tastes amazing. It's a bit far from SGR or the airport but that's because the road is being constructed. The staff are extremely friendly. Absolutely loved my stay here
The Serena Beach resort was beautiful and relaxing! Everything we need was right there. Delicious food, friendly service and luxury accommodations! We suggest getting a massage at the spa and checking out the turtle and butterfly conservation projects at the resort. We really loved Maurice who gave us the butterfly tour and Duncan who helped us throughout our stay (and even remembered our names). You will not be disappointed with this resort! The reason I gave only 4 stars for location is because of all the boats on the beach harassing people to purchase trips. They are not party of the resort and can be pushy.
Rooms: we booked 2 rooms. The bathrooms are so dated they look gross. When we checked in, there was hair everywhere. We called room service to clean again, but there was still hair and hairline cracks on the tiles. IMO, very unpleasant experience to get over. Check-in: our room was not ready even though we checked in well past noon, rooms were ready after 3pm. The kicker, we asked for late checkout and they are charging us 50% of room fare. This is classic money grab. Food: 3-star food at you guessed it, 5-star prices. Dinner was overpriced and tasted underwhelming. We have been going out for dinner at nearby 3-star resort that has 5-star food! Go figure! Service: breakfast service is very good especially the omelette station. Buffet menu on the other hand is uninspired. Lunch service is terrible, we had to wait nearly an hour for pizza despite telling them we were hungry and tired from the journey. Gym: the main gym is closed for renovations, there is a makeshift outdoor gym which is a complete joke. No mention of this during check in. Very similar experience in Serena Kilaguni, the pool is closed for renovation but no mention of it prior to arrival. Water sports: it is outsourced. Staff insisted boat was Serena guests only. This is clearly a lie. I went with local company on the beach. Overall: the hotel property especially common areas are good. Great location but that’s about it. We stayed at Serena brand our entire two weeks in Kenya. Unfortunately, we are so jaded by the experience we will skip this brand going forward.
