The Highlight of My Trip to Italy Staying at Hotel Cenacolo and visiting Assisi was, without a doubt, the absolute highlight of my trip to Italy. The hotel is stunning, elegant, peaceful, and immaculately clean. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, always ready to help with a warm smile. Rooms are very comfortable and luxury, they have excellent air conditioning, I was finally able to sleep comfortably and stay cool. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh and delicious options. The atmosphere is serene, perfect for relaxation and reflection, and the location is ideal for exploring Assisi and the surrounding area. Assisi itself is simply magical. The beauty, the history, and the deep sense of peace that fills the town are truly unique. Walking through its cobblestone streets, visiting the Basilica of Saint Francis, and discovering the tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis were unforgettable experiences that touched my heart. I can’t recommend Hotel Cenacolo and a visit to Assisi enough. If you're traveling to Italy, make this part of your journey, you will not regret it.
This is the WORST hotel ever! The rooms are HOT! The air conditioning was not working. I thought when we came back from dinner, the room would be cooled down but no! I went to the front desk and asked if they could help with the air they said they were calling maintenance. By the time I went to bed, it was like a sauna in my room. I went back to the front desk and then they tell me that 2 of the machines are not working. I asked for another room that had air, and they said it was the whole hotel! Also one of the older men waiters at dinner was super rude! It was not a lack of understanding / translation issue, he was just plain rude! I had to take a shower to cool down, and the water was so so cold I mean I know I wanted to cool down, but I couldn't even stick my head under the water because it was so cold! There are also little flying bugs in our room we've killed 3 so far. I would leave and go to another hotel but we are part of a tour group. There is NO coin laundry and NO pool. They did have a good bar tender name Luigi he was very nice, friendly and accommodating!
I stayed at Hotel Il Cenacolo and honestly, I have no idea how this place gets so many good reviews. Maybe people are just impressed by the building from the outside—which does look nice—but everything falls apart the moment you walk in. To note the fact that they mainly cater for coaches of large pilgrim groups. The corridors are dark, depressing, and look like a cheap office from the 1980s. The room I got was plain, cold, and incredibly sad, like something left behind after a clearance sale. But the worst part was the cleaning—or rather, the lack of it. There were body hairs everywhere. On the bedside table, on the sink, in the bathtub, on the toilet, in the bidet, even on the desk. Basically, the room hadn't been cleaned at all. The floor looked like some kind of cheap plastic laminate and was filthy. The bed was made so poorly it looked like someone had just gotten out of it and pulled the sheets over quickly. The light switches were old and yellowed, the fixtures looked like they were falling apart, and neither air conditioning nor heating worked. The entire hallway and the room had an awful smell, something between mildew and a storage basement. I was also shocked to find that the walls are paper thin—you can hear everything. Someone coughing in another room, people walking above me, chairs scraping. Zero soundproofing. The breakfast was disappointing too, with very limited choices and poor quality. I read in another review someone called this place “tranquil”—I’d call it bleak. If you're looking for something clean, quiet, and comfortable, this is not it. The staff wasn’t rude, but they didn’t seem surprised or particularly bothered when I brought up the issues. In conclusion, nice from the outside, a disaster inside. I wouldn’t go back even if it were free.
