What a great afternoon lunch. Delicious food, great service at an amazing location. Can't wait to have dinner at the hilltop restaurant. I'm sure I will not be disappointed.
If you were to look up paradise in a dictionary, The Abaco Club would be listed! Nearly everything was perfect! The good: The club itself is beautiful, and the beach was very private. While there were others there, it felt like your own private beach. Sugar Key is a short kayak, sail, or paddle board away for great snorkeling with sea turtles and colorful fish. Also, the sand does not get hot when walking on it like most other beaches. All beach activities are included (kayak, paddle boards, sailboat, games/daily activities). You have to try the hit the boat contest if you like golf. Also activities such as tennis, pickleball, croquet, bikes, and the gym are included. The golf course is top notch and hosts a professional tournament. Between the winds and the turtle shell, undulating greens, it's a good challenge for all skill levels. The greens are the trickiest part by far. They also have a few stocked adult coolers on the course included with your round. The course was never crowded and tee times were not required. (For perspective I'm a low single digit handicap.) The rooms were great too. We had a beautiful view of the water and most facilities are a short golf cart ride away or walkable. With so many great things to do, you really only need your room to rest. Finally, the food was decent too. They try to keep the menu fresh at the Cliff House with different themed nights throughout the week. It's a little pricey, but to be expected at a facility like this. The bad: Not a ton to include here, but bug spray is a MUST! The mosquitos are awful, especially after an afternoon rainstorm. We also had a few centipedes and a giant moth find their way into our room, not not the end of the world. Also, the limited dining options is a minor negative. There's a food truck and restaurant at the beach and the main restaurant at the clubhouse, the Cliff House. Again, despite the price, the food was good. There's not a lot of off site options either, but Pete's Pub was great (not walkable, but they have a shuttle that takes you too and from). Overall: If you have the means to visit here, I'd highly recommend it! Such a cool place that I hope to return to one day!
This former Ritz Carlton property has seen better days, like 20 yrs ago. The facilities are in dire need of updating and the membership is such that it feels like a ghost town. Where is everyone? The pool is dated and as it is on a cliff overlooking the water it could be a fabulous infinite pool. Beach club is pretty nice yet not on the open ocean as it is a bay so not quite the view you seek. To have a bartender tell you that he is closed is a shame. He should know better at a five star place. Give away a beer if you can not open the register. Do not make the guest have to take a golf cart up to the main lodge. Lodge is a great location but needs a retrofit. Feel sorry for the members.
