A wonderful hotel in a very nice town. The rooms are wonderful with lots of fresh air from the windows. The hotel has fire places and board games in the main hallway, aswell as a beautiful front porch where you can order snacks. Only thing that was frustrating was there were multiple kids well into the adult only hour of the pool, and staff did not come to see if there were children there until 30 minutes past the start time. However, it could gave been a busy night, you never know.
This iconic property has stood the test of time through careful, attentive staff, updates and planning. Location can’t be beat. Front veranda area and many other great spots on this property to sip your favorite drink. Bar service at outdoor pool for frozen drinks etc is awesome. Indoor pool and fitness great too. The gentleman who cleans the common areas like the lobby has been there for years and the pride in his work shows. I always enjoy chatting with him. People like him make this place what it is - special.
Fourth time staying at the Algonquin resort. I love old-world hotels and this one certainly is one. However, since our first visit in 2019 the hotel for me is getting a bit tired but still lovely. The staff is outstanding, professional, helpful and friendly. The hotel’s feedback regarding the eggs being free-run - yes for the omelette station (which is the best part of the breakfast :), however the rest of the breakfast selection is mediocre at best (stayed five nights so sampled lots). The scrambled “eggs”, if not powdered (as they claim), certainly taste as they are, and there is no decent coffee (powdered milk substitute for a cappuccino that comes from a press-a-button coffee machine?) For a hotel of this calibre it’s shameful.. the coffee situation was not addressed in their reply. Having international clientele and coffee lovers as guests, they ought to invest in this. For those who love to be surrounded by dogs you will be delighted! I’ve never seen so many dogs outside a kennel or dog park.
