Had a fantastic meal here with my partner. The service was excellent, as was the food. Tried the alcohol free wine and my partner had the alcohol free lager, which were perfect with our meals. It's a lovely hotel which we hope to visit again soon, close to all amenities in Truro and great central location for other attractions.

We recently had an amazing week long holiday in Cornwall and loved everything - except the food at the Alverton. Dinner on the first night included undercooked chips and rubbery kale. Breakfast would have been fine for a Travelodge and we pined for breakfast at Driftwood. The location is amazing with easy access to the whole of Cornwall. Our room in the Courtyard was spacious and very comfortable with a great bathroom. The staff were a pleasure- just need new chefs.

I had been anticipating this stay for months and unfortunately I am incredibly disappointed. In no way it was addressed that rooms in this hotel are not easily accessible. We are a party of 4 people, two of whom are in their 70s, and there are multiple narrow stairs and hallways going up and down to reach the rooms. The lift only reaches room 1-8 and I had to carry 6 suitcases to three rooms in different parts of the building as there was no one from the staff to help. Room 27 had to be changed because the window glass was broken and badly replaced with plexiglass but the window would not close. The new room was nice and more spacious. In room 12, in both beds you could feel every spring moving under the mattresses making it an uncomfortable sleep. It was also really hot but we couldn’t sleep with the windows open as there was an intermittent sound coming from outside. The lady at the reception desk said that they were fully booked in the main building and we would have to go in a separate part of the property so we stayed anyway as we didn’t want to be too far from the other 2 people who speak very little English in case they needed something. Breakfast is also not up to a 4-star hotel standards. We booked this hotel as they mentioned gluten free breakfast options and this was confirmed upon checking in. We asked the staff in the morning and firstly they confirmed that they had gluten free bread and granola, but then they said they had run out of both. It’s also weird that you need to agree upon a set hour to access the breakfast room (we asked for 8:30/8:45 but they could only accommodate us at 8:15 or 9:15) and then wait 30mins to get the food. For the prices they are charging I would not recommend it and it’s a real shame as the building itself is beautiful.
