The American Club is truly deserving of its 5-Star rating. They take service to a higher level than most other similar resorts. The food service and quality in particular was outstanding. The golf courses are in great condition, but be aware they are difficult, so don't play the back tees! Move forward and have a great experience. Views on Whistling Straits (Straits course) are better than those at any other resort, including Pebble Beach.

Wonderful atmosphere and attentive service throughout the resort. Extremely clean and organized but a couple of negatives below: • Spa amenities like the steam room were top-notch, but the massage fell short for the price. One of our two massages seemed like low effort and no extras (stones, cupping, towels) were used. • Sunday morning buffet didn’t have many options and some food was cold — not what you’d expect for the cost • The Greenhouse café has a great breakfast sandwich, but it’s not on the menu, so you’d never know to ask • When you’re paying luxury hotel prices, small oversights like these shouldn’t happen

I wish I could give a good rating, but for being Wisconsin’s only 5-star hotel, my interactions both on the website and with reservations via the phone left a lot to be desired: I’ve had better luck booking with cheap hotels. My wife and I wanted to go to the American Club for our anniversary next month, and while we typically stay at the Grand Geneva, we do try to go to other places some years. After the website didn’t work properly to book our hotel stay and spa services, I decided to give them a call directly as that’s usually better with well established resorts. Unfortunately, while very nice, the woman I spoke with on the phone didn’t know how the spa services worked in conjunction with the stay either. My wife simply wanted a massage while we were there, but they couldn’t figure out how to book it with our stay. They asked us to pay for the room up front due to “limited availability”, and they’d have someone from Spa Services call at a later time to confirm booking. If they couldn’t get booking sorted out, they could then refund our deposit: that’s not a 5-star resort service level. We’ve now booked for the Grand Geneva again this year, and it was much easier. It’s a shame, as I would have loved to check out the area. I’d suggest some general training for your staff so that it can be as seamless and efficient as possible going forward. I may try again next year, but we’ll see. I’ll be sure to update my review if I do.
