This place is a gem - I love it and always stay here when I am in the area visiting family! The rooms are renovated to a high standard and are quiet and very comfortable. The windows have black-out blinds/curtains which is essential in mid-summer when the Sun wakes up before 5am. Underfloor heating in the bathroom is a nice touch especially in the Winter. Air-conditioning is very welcome, especially given Climate Change, and has become essential in the UK in Summer. The only downside are the stairs servicing the upper floors (there are ground floor rooms) but the staff are happy to take luggage upstairs. The restaurant deserves better recognition - Lunch and Dinner: the menu is innovative and the food high quality. Breakfast good selection of continental and cooked breakfast including a stonkingly excellent Full English Breakfast. Restaurant staff: friendly, efficient and helpful. Ambiance: Comfortable English country pub style - a real fireplaces are wonderful in colder weather, The outside area is an oasis of calm and tranquility and a lovely setting for a drink or al fresco meal - in warmer weather. I did not see any outdoor heaters so cannot comments about the patio area in cooler weather The only downside is parking - there is limited parking, both off-street and on-street - no preference is given to hotel guests. The last time I stayed I arrived early evening and there was zero parking and I had to double-park. I was told that they were hosting a dinner for 25-people, which undoubtedly put pressure on the parking. On the plus side there is an EV charging station.

We spent a Sunday night here through a dinner, bed and breakfast deal. Lovely room, beautifully presented. Food on offer was from a 'deal" menu. Choice was extremely limited so we opted to add a supplement to have a decent meal. Food was nothing special and very expensive. I think the 'deal" would be better if there was credit given for dinner rather than the limited menu offered.

Restaurant Review Only. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars—the setting, location, ambience, and service were all genuinely excellent. The vibe is relaxed but refined, and the staff were warm and attentive throughout. That said, the food didn’t quite match the standard set by everything else. It plated really well and beautifully but the sourdough felt a bit dry, the salad was overdressed, and while the croquettes were fine, the flavours didn’t stand out. The meat was well-cooked and the triple-cooked chips were a highlight - crisp, golden perfection. Drinks were also great. Overall, it’s a beautiful spot with a lot going for it, but the flavours didn’t quite live up to the setting or the price tag. Would come back for the atmosphere and hope the kitchen finds its rhythm.
