Second time we’ve stayed here but about 7 years between visits! Just as lovely location as we remembered. Great if you’re into walking/hiking but also great spot to drive out and explore. Our room was compact but comfortable and the welcome from staff was very warm. Exceptional and very generous breakfasts. Great selection available. Parking is restricted due to tiny car park but we were told we could park over in the Pendle Inn car park. Highly recommend ❤️
Amazing little pub, surrounded by stunning views. The staff were absolutely lovely and the service was amazing! Roast dinner to die for! The cauliflower cheese is phenomenal, by far the best I've ever tasted!
We had to stop near Barley Mow last night because of a boating issue which meant we were a convenient and small stumble away from the pub. We were lucky enough to be able to use their laundry service for “boaters” earlier in the day and we decided to go back for dinner. We were greeted by the very busy Richard who recommended the special of the day-Steak and Ale Pie. He reassured us that it was “proper” homemade food at the pub. We were not disappointed! Three of us had the pie, one rump steak, Shepherd’s Pie and the Southern Fried Chicken. Everyone enjoyed their meals which were generous in size and at very reasonable prices. I have to say that the Steak and Ale Pie far exceeded my expectations! The meat was lovely and tender with the sauce having a rich, slow cooked flavour of ale throughout-as one of friends said, “it’s bloody delicious!” All served with an equally delicious gravy! It was “Proper” indeed! We enquired about dessert but Richard said we may have missed out as the chef, his daughter Richelle(hope I spelled that correctly), had finished for the evening-we asked what they usually served for dessert and lamented missing out on Apple Crumble and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Sensing our disappointment, Richard had a quick word with Richelle and came back with the good news that she would rustle up dessert for us-we were overjoyed! And again, we were not disappointed-all the desserts were homemade with old school custard and/or ice cream! We came upon the Barley Mow as a happy accident and I can highly recommend anyone going there for good old fashioned, homemade food and genuine, kind service. Thank you Richard and Richelle! We wouldn’t hesitate to come back again!x
