A Truly Wonderful Stay – Even with a Rocky Start What a fantastic experience from start to finish—even though our trip began on a difficult note. My wife was injured on the way to The Bear, and we couldn’t have been met with more kindness and care. The staff went above and beyond, and Tracy was an absolute gem—warm, genuine, and made us feel like we were staying with friends rather than in a hotel. This stay really highlighted the contrast with one of the sister hotels we visited, which lacked the same warmth and charm. It’s our second time at The Bear—we stayed last year, and although my wife was initially hesitant about staying in a pub setting, she ended up loving it so much that it topped her list for this year’s trip. We noticed several subtle improvements since our last visit—small touches that really add up and elevate the overall experience. It’s clear that care and attention to detail are a priority here. If we had one minor complaint, it would be the limited parking, but it’s a small trade-off for such a welcoming and comfortable stay. Top rated—we’d love to return again.

What an absolutely incredible stay at The Bear! From the moment we stepped in, we felt more like visiting dignitaries than paying guests—and that’s all thanks to Tracey, the superstar manager. Honestly, she rolled out the red carpet and then some. Nothing was too much trouble, and everything was done with a smile (and usually a good laugh too). The head chef personally curated a traditional Sunday roast just for our group—and it was next level. The pub itself? Proper English charm. We came for a night away and left feeling like part of the family. If you’re after good food, good company, and the kind of welcome that makes you feel right at home—The Bear’s the one. Already planning our next visit. Tracey, get our room ready!

I'm giving the hotel (pub) 5 stars although the room was not perfect. It overlooked the noisy road and the AC was ineffective - less than ideal during a heatwave. The service and food though were impeccable. Faultless in both respects. The decaf coffee served with my breakfast was probably the best cup of decaf I've ever had. And the big, cooked breakfast was top rate. Special mention to Tracy, who was on the breakfast shift and who is very friendly. She even got the background music spot on, at low volume for minimal intrusiveness. I really enjoyed my stay.
