The best meal we have had for a long time. Beautifully presented and very tasty. Service was perfect and staff very friendly. I would recommend this pub for a special occasion. ( the soap and hand lotion in the toilets was lovely too!)
I’m writing this review because of something odd- it is a very good place for dinner (albeit expensive) but when called for reservations we were specifically told “smart casual- no jeans” which was more than fine by us- but when we arrived a bit dressed up we found several tables sat with jeans, more with ripped jeans, all with trainers on and a woman in a tube top half way down her boobs….so what is with telling some to dress nicer than usual and allowing others to dress as if they’re going skateboarding? By the way, we tried local wine, so thin that it was not noticeable at all- we wanted to support local but this was a 15 pound wine that should not be on the list for 55 pounds!
Booked a birthday lunch here for my wife some months back. Arrived today with our two teenage children to find that a wedding party of some 20-30 guests had taken over the whole restaurant. We were therefore the only 'non-wedding guests' - so were seated in a separate bar area, surrounded by empty tables and characterless decor. The young lady who greeted us - in a very abrupt way - turned out to be a bar-lady doubling as a waitress. The service was therefore equally abrupt - until a manager took over. To order drinks and to ask anyone to take an order we had to go to the bar. The men's loos were scruffy: dusty, old plastic orchids and no loo rolls. Overall: good food, but didn't outweigh a pretty poor experience.
