The Boot & Shoe

Had a lovely night's stay at this pub in a quiet village. We had a pleasent room with a very comfortable bed and plenty of towels and nice toiletries. Breakfast was very good with a nice choice of cooked items. We shared a lovely stoned baked pizza with toppings of our choice with a salad in the evening. The stone cooked steaks being served on other tables looked amazing! Staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely stop again.

Food and staff were excellent, very attentive. We had a big booking of 11 and were given our own little area which was lovely. Food was prompt and hot. Very surprised that they did a lunchtime special on a Saturday with 2 or 3 courses and it was a very good selection of courses. We would visit again.

Unfortunately, our stay at The Boot was not what we had hoped for. It was clear that the new owners lack experience in hospitality. We were not greeted politely upon arrival, which set a negative tone. The only positive thing about our stay was that the breakfast was good. The gentleman who took our order was very polite and helpful. The stairs to our room were near the gents toilet and the door was propped open so that an unpleasant smell lingered - not good. The room was cosy with a pleasant bathroom, but the bed was small and uncomfortable with bedding that didn’t fit. Aesthetically, it’s a weird mix of decor which fits with the age of the building and tacky modern pieces that don’t work. It’s in desperate need of a makeover if the 4* rating is going to be retained! There’s potential here, but significant improvements are needed in both service and overall upkeep. We won’t be back and certainly wouldn’t recommend it.
