I loved our visit to this hotel. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Room was adorable and comfortable. They really go above and behind, like providing chocolate cookies at night, which were delicious! I have traveled all over the world, NEVER have I said at a place where the bathroom floors are heated!! Loved that! And as a bonus, the brand of shampoo in the bathroom was amazing! Ordered some when I got home.

My husband and I booked back in January for a trip in July! We read rave reviews about the complimentary breakfast and amazing rooftop Resturant and bar. Unfortunately upon our arrival we learned there was new management with the restaurant and there was no longer complimentary breakfast. Ok, weird they didn’t inform guests that booked months in advance. We got over that. However we were disappointed to find that the kinks of new management have not been worked out and the rooftop restaurant and bar really was not operational. Limited menu, one server with zero service, breakfast not ready to be served in the morning, etc. I hope they get it sorted out because the room was great and we loved all of the other sweet touches like the availability of water, cookies, and the pool setup!

We stayed at The Break this past weekend to celebrate my mother’s birthday—a special trip with my husband, our 3-year-old daughter, and my mom, who had her own room. I booked the reservation over three months in advance and had multiple communications with the hotel leading up to our stay, including dinner reservations at the hotel restaurant. At no point was it mentioned that the hotel would be undergoing renovations or that dining options would be limited. First, the positives: Our second-floor room was spacious and comfortable, with a nice-sized balcony and a great view of the water. It was quiet at night, and the air conditioning worked well. The staff we encountered were friendly and kind. We enjoyed the heated pool (note: no shallow end for small children) and the small outdoor sauna, which was great on breezy days. The location is convenient—an easy drive to the beach—and the hotel offers free bikes (though we didn’t notice helmets or child seats available. Maybe you have to ask reception if they have these available). Now the disappointing parts of our stay: Upon entering our room, there was a musty/old smoke smell in the entryway, which thankfully didn’t persist throughout the room. The shower design was flawed—the soap dish blocked the door from fully opening, and the ADA bench made it tricky to squeeze in. Our dinner reservation—which we had expected to be on the rooftop restaurant with sunset views—was instead held in the breakfast room on the first floor, with no prior notice of the change. The menu was extremely limited, and while the food was fine, the experience was not what we were promised or paid for. The staff explained they were in the midst of a management transition, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of transparency. Had we known, we would have booked elsewhere. After dinner, we were told we could enjoy drinks on the sunset deck—what we found was a small space near the HVAC units with no ocean view, not the advertised rooftop experience. Meanwhile, the actual rooftop deck appeared closed for renovations… yet somehow open the following night for what sounded like a private party, which felt especially frustrating as paying guests. Breakfast was shockingly subpar for a hotel charging $700+ per night. One morning there was barely any food left an hour before closing, and what was there—rock-hard pastries, nearly-empty trays, and poor coffee—felt more like a budget motel than a luxury stay. On another day, there was a server, but again, the options were limited and disappointing (e.g., granola but no milk or yogurt). Housekeeping also left a used rag on our sink after cleaning, which did not help our impression. We raised our concerns with the receptionist, who was understanding and promised to speak to management. In the end, the only offer we received was a discount on a future stay, which we declined. Sadly, we have no desire to return. For nearly $3,000 across two rooms for two nights, this was not the experience we hoped for or were led to expect. A lack of transparency, substandard food and amenities, and a general sense of disorganization from new management really soured what should have been a memorable celebration.
