The Bruce Arms

Visited the Bruce Arms today at lunchtime with a friend and dogs. The food us really lovely. Duck terrine with celeriac and toast to start and Spinach and cheese quiche, homemade slaw and new potatoes. Delicious. The staff are so very helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend. Thank you.

A really lovely little country pub/restaurant. We first went there in May - stumbled on it by accident when looking for a place for lunch when in between guided tours of the nearby Thornborough Henges. Unfortunately at that time we were very pushed for time, but enjoyed our two starters (& the friendly reception) so much that we promised we'd be back. And this was the perfect place to stop for a more leisurely lunch on our way to Thirsk. Excellent food, welcoming & friendly staff, able to sit outside both times, just a really nice place. The menu is gratifyingly limited, so you know that care is being taken with each dish, and attention to detail. Other reviews make the evening dinner atmosphere sound very enticing, but a bit too far away for us, but we'll definitely be back again for lunch.

My Dad and I met up with my brother's ex-wife and her partner for Sunday lunch. We chose The Bruce Arms because of a review in The Yorkshire Post. The service was attentive and friendly. The environment is quirky with mixed-style tables and chairs. The cheese board for dessert provided a good mix of three cheeses, chutneys and biscuits. Just as a side note, don't miss visiting the Marmion Tower and church, which are a 3-4 minute walk from the pub. Very interesting.
