I stayed in a King room on a Saturday night in July 2025. The stay was great - so much so that I feel like I want to keep this hotel a secret. Service - made checking in and out feel easy and comfortable. The person who checked me in was able to give me the room a little earlier and that was a blessing because I could shower and change before my matinee next door. Room - well planned, interesting decor that coordinates in the common areas and the rooms. Nice bed, decent shampoo and body wash in bottles on shower wall (but take your own if you like bar soap). I had a view of the side of the Capitol, lit up for the Book of Mormon. Also of a street below where the Light Rail runs. Not too fancy but not boring, either. Dining - there is a very relaxed little spot near reception, and a bar. It reminded me of the Cabinn hotels in Denmark. Room Service pricing seemed competitive. Ambience - I found the place quiet. Location - close to Central, in the middle of a thriving district abounding with with pubs and restaurants, a stone's throw from the Capitol Theatre and the Chinatown Light Rail stop. Chain coffee next door and a several options for getting a snack fix just across the road. If I was improve anything, it would be the tech. I could not get the ABC on the box to save my life. There were loads of channels but I could not find the usual free to air channels. I ended up watching on my phone. Also could not make the wireless internet connect at all. If I had been there for more than a night I would have asked for assistance. Also the drapes in the ground floor entrance hall freaked me out in the darkness of evening - I felt like people could sneak in the door and hide there. It didn't happen but it was on my mind.
Stayed at The Capitol Hotel recently and overall had a great experience. The location is spot on—super close to the Capital Theatre, food spots, and public transport. The room was modern, clean, and surprisingly spacious for a city hotel. Staff were friendly and check-in was easy. That said, there were a couple of downsides. At night, there was loud bass and music coming from outside our window, which made it a bit hard to fall asleep. Also, the breakfast was underwhelming—pretty basic and not really worth the price. Still, for convenience, comfort, and overall vibe, it’s a solid place to stay in Sydney. Would book again, but maybe bring earplugs and skip the brekkie.
1 star because it's the lowest Short summary: Great location, but a terrible night’s stay. Room soundproofing is extremely poor. Loud banging and talking started around 11:30pm until nearly 2am. Nighttime staff was not particularly helpful. Would not recommend if rest and comfort are important to you. Details for those who needed: I stayed at this hotel for one night and, unfortunately, had a terrible experience that I feel compelled to share. After returning to my room around 10pm, I went to bed at 11pm hoping for a quiet night. However, by 11:30pm, loud banging noises and talking started coming from the room directly opposite. I understand it's a Saturday and people are entitled for a joyful night but this is much worse than my experience in most hostels. This is due to the soundproofing was shockingly poor-l could hear everything clearly, far worse than what expect from a hotel at this price point and character. I called the night duty officer, who assured me he would investigate and provide an update—but 30 minutes later, the noise was still ongoing and no one got back to me. I called again and, frustratingly, no one answered. Eventually, I decided to step out and check what was happening. I discovered that someone had been stuck in the bathroom, and others in the room were trying to break them out—hence the constant banging. I suggested they call reception for help, and they mentioned a building manager was on the way but wouldn’t arrive for another 30 minutes. Later, I heard what sounded like hammering as the noise escalated. Even after hotel staff arrived, the commotion continued until 1:22am. Just as I thought I could finally sleep, loud talking (either from the hallway or inside the room) continued until 1:50am. When I raised the issue with reception the next morning, I was surprised to learn this was not an isolated incident. Even more concerning, the room involved was a standard double room, not a larger multi-room unit—yet it seemed 5–6 people were crammed in. To be fair, the morning staff were friendly and apologetic, but the lack of support from night staff and the overall experience was a nightmare. While the hotel enjoys a great location, if you're looking for a restful sleep or reliable service during the night, I sadly cannot recommend it.
