The best thing about The Citizen during my visit was the Valet staff. These young men were polite, personable and attentive. Kudos to each and every one of them. Check in was a bit off and not warmly welcoming. I also inquired about a late check out since I was participating in a half marathon the next day and I was told that they didn’t have it but they would be happy to hold my luggage. Upon my later hotel website search, I found that they did indeed offer late check out, upon which I called the front desk and secured it. The room was very small, had no luggage rack nor bathroom storage for personal items and the shower head had a constant drip. The one positive was that the bed was very comfortable. Check out was far better, with welcoming smiles. I had forgotten to use the $10 food and beverage credit when I dined at the Grange the previous night but was told I could still use it at their mini grocery, which I appreciated.

Just checked in for a week stay in a king corner room. Will update when I have more experience here. I will say I'm extremely dissatisfied with the fact that there is literally nowhere to put your stuff! Seriously, not 1 dresser, not 1 nightstand with a drawer, the bathroom is tiny with no counter space. There are areas for a dresser, I guess no one thought it was important. The TV is the size of a computer monitor. No microwave. Tiny area to hang clothes with 6 hangers in it.

I really wanted to love this hotel. We decided to stay the night on our 17th anniversary, as our midway point to a larger trip. The lobby has a boutique hotel charm but we couldn’t enjoy it because it was restricted for a wedding. Upon arriving, the spots for valet were so limited that we had to wait in other parking or hold up traffic to get out. I asked for bell service and the valets brought us a cart to load our luggage and then left my husband to bring it up to our room. There was one person at check-in even though there were multiple in the office, not helping customers. We booked the “penthouse suite”. Our room was west facing so the balcony wasn’t usable until late at night and by that time the neighboring balcony was full of an entire family (including baby) with only a couple of plants to separate us. We called down for extra towels and bedding for the pull-out. Each time we had to call multiple times because guest services was too busy and it hung up on us. The towels took over an hour to arrive so we went to dinner without showering. The restaurant was also so underwhelming. Two of our four meals were so oversalted we couldn’t finish them. When we got back to the room our kids wanted to take a bath in the jacuzzi tub. To my horror the bubbles came out black because the jets haven’t been cleaned in who knows how long. The mini fridge also smells of mold. All in all, we appreciate the view (even if there is no privacy or peace and quiet) but that’s about it. We won’t be back.
