The Desoto Savannah

The DeSoto Savannah Hotel is located in downtown Savannah, just a few blocks away from the restaurants and downtown activities. There are a lot of very good and interesting restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance of the hotel. The valet team will welcome you with a smile and Southern help. The hotel is over 100 years old, and the beautiful lobby presents this look and style right away. The hotel rooms are very comfortable, have excellent sleeping comfort, and enough space for guests. The pool area is very nice, and the pool itself is a great place to be. The food is very good. I have tried many different food items, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and all was great. The 1540 Room offers a lot of Southern flavors and experiences. The bar was a bit slow, but comfortable and has an interesting feel. The registration staff is providing good support, and will hopefully offer more smiles. During my stay, there were elevator issues, and the staff and management worked hard to accommodate guests. This is a hotel that is over 100 years old, and working very hard to accommodate their guests. All taking into consideration, my score is 4.8.

Absolutely Prime location with easy access to the River, Broughton street to the south, the historic sites in immediate proximity, and the park to the north. We never used our car while we were here and luckily the weather was good to us. The ambience and the history of the building was very evident from the get-go and you instantly felt you were in a luxury hotel. The concierge, housekeeping and the culinary staff were spot on, and the bartender by the pool made everyone feels welcome. The complimentary snacks, water and sunscreen was a nice touch! The valet staff were efficient and courteous, going out of their way to say hi and bye to us as we went around, and got the door open to us if they were available. The only real con I have to give was the fitness centre. The exercise bike wasn’t working and the equipment was minimal, but still was able to get a good workout in when I needed to. Maybe a little more equipment in the stretch area and maintenance on the machines would be helpful. Overall a fantastic stay and an absolute bargain for the price! Wow what an experience. Issues with the elevators all weekend, rooms did not cool below 72 most of the trip, no refrigerator in the rooms, and no coffee machines in the rooms. The location is excellent and the building itself is nice. They had service techs out working on the elevators fairly soon but I (and a lot of other guests) still had to climb 11 flights of stairs to go to and from my room, multiple times. Not my idea of a relaxing vacation.
