- It's great to have an operational restaurant downstairs and the food & service there is excellent. Your people are very welcoming and helpful, clearly well trained and really have your guest's interests at heart. I was very impressed. - great not to have to pay for parking! It's such a rip-off in England.. really impressed your guests park for free. - room was spacious and well lit. Bed is good & bathroom well fitted & modern. Improvement? I really have no complaints at all, but you could consider - would be nice to be able to open the windows in the room for some fresh air... they appear to be painted shut & don't work easily. - More cupboards & hanging space would be useful for guests staying more than one night.
Not a great experience. Food was either undercooked or overcooked. The accommodation was nice but the beds were quite hard. I hope they can fix the issues because it is a lovely looking pub in a lovely village.
Staff working in the afternoon were very unhelpful and in my opinion unprofessional. We arrived at 14:10 to check in on the day of my son’s wedding and we were supposed to be at the venue for a meal as quickly as we could be. I appreciate the check-in time is normally 15:00 however I explained that we were there for a wedding and asked whether at least one of the two rooms was ready so that we could get changed quickly and leave our bags - If we did not do this, it would mean that we would have to leave the celebrations earlier than necessary to check in later. Initially, we were just met with a blank “check-in is 3 pm” from staff who gave the impression of generally being disinterested, But on asking a second time someday at least offered to go and check if one of the rooms was ready. I’m not really convinced that they did because they didn’t head in the direction of the rooms, and so the result was that we had to get changed in the toilets which were quite disgusting and smelly and wet. This really was upsetting on such an important day. As predicted, we had to leave the wedding celebrations at 22:40 to return to the pub to check in. However, the staff that are working at this point was super helpful and they said that they were very surprised about the earlier problems because usually when it’s for a wedding they do allow guests to check in a little earlier…. And to be honest by the time we had to get changed in the toilets, it was probably nearer to 14:30 The rooms were nice, although the pillows were quite firm and uncomfortable. The room was also quite hot, but I don’t think that the Dun Cow can be blamed for the hot weather! There was no aircon and a fan was provided, we also took the duvet out of the duvet cover and managed to survive the night.
