The Inn was absolutely beautiful. Everything from the staff, to the dinner with wine pairing, walking trail along the river, proximity to wineries and breweries, customer service and communication were all exceptional. The food and wine was honestly some of the best that we have had. My husband and I needed a relaxing, quiet weekend away to celebrate my birthday and this was just the place for that. The view and sunset from the back of Inn for outdoor dinner was so beautiful and the weather wasn’t the best. We love the historical Inns with history and stories and that is what this Inn has. The room was clean and cozy and had everything we needed. We didn’t bring our dogs but it is dog friendly which we love! We will most definitely be back!

This review only covers the accommodation and areas of the main house (excludes dining and vast surrounding 80 acres ) Exceptional rate value in the beautiful and very desirable rolling hills of the Norfolk wine country. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Extensive outdoor seating in place for large gatherings. Three stars as some may find the patina somewhat overwhelming despite the great age of the structure. For those seeking full antique restoration it would be wise to consider alternative accommodations though very probably at significantly higher costs. The complementary breakfast, mentioned in the reviews summary overview, no longer exists as of the time of writing Northbound visitors should be exceptionally cautious as the 15 byway can be quite busy making the left hand turn into the property, which is narrow and comes up fast, difficult and possibly dangerous.

I think your satisfaction of stay will determine when you go, what room you choose and what you expect when you get there. The main property needs lots of renovation. However, it appears some rooms have been updated. The Jefferson room is not updated, the beds very small and uncomfortable, no tv in room. It didn’t help that the employee staying in the room above us was smoking in the house (when it clearly states none of the visitors are supposed to smoke), and set off the smoke alarm at 2am. The bathroom was very small, the paint and drywall in disrepair in shower, and the night we stayed they said the well water wasn’t fit to drink, so we didn’t shower either. We stayed on a Monday night, so very few rooms were booked. So breakfast consisted of a bag of peanuts, coffee and a muffin, and I don’t drink coffee. Let me just say this property has amazing potential. The view in back is breath taking as the sun goes down and coming up in the morning, and we watched both. Why not since sleeping was a challenge right? The historic value is also very cool and we read some stories online about some of the things that took place there. I think they should make a point to communicate those stories to visitors and it would make the stay better. I know they are trying to update rooms, but I think until they do the prices should reflect better what you’re getting. The non-updated room and bath we had should be priced like a cheap hotel until fixed up. The newer ones could probably go for much higher. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway for two, pick a nice room and you’ll likely love it here. If you’re expecting service, group events, good food, updated amenities, you’ll likely be disappointed. But I hope they figure it out and make it work, because they have an amazing little paradise if they do.
