Update following another stay on the return leg to Pune. An example of how one bad experience that ruins the sleep can destroy all the good work done by staff in every other area: At 2.45 am, some very noisy work on the roof above Room 319 woke us up and kept us awake till I called reception and complained. It took two calls for the noise to not go but just reduce by moving to another location. At 3.24 am, the noise returned and it took another call to get it to finally stop. It is a stupid act of hotel management because for a place like a stop over hotel, delivering a sound night's sleep is perhaps more essential than a good pool or a decent bar. Hence, for just this fail, a single star to Fern Karad on the whole, via bad service in delivering a good rest at night. Were it not for this, I would give 4 stars because all else including food quality was very good. Why noisy repair work is needed to be done at 3 in the morning defeats any understanding. The only justification can be an emergency need to fix a roof from falling down in the night, which cannot have been the case. This was just stupidity. To his credit, Operation Manager Mr Hussain called me right after my departure, asked what had happened, and assured me that this would not happen again. So for now, I will leave my review as it stands, but with this footnote. Will I still stay there the next time I drive to Goa? Yes, based on this assurance.
