I wasn't quite sure how this would go based on some of the reviews, but I trusted the reviews that said they have good service and want to please, so I booked here and was glad I did. We were in town for two nights as my girlfriend was having surgery at a nearby hospital, and the staff (especially the general manager Lauren) was so nice and accommodating. I'm glad I prioritized great service over having a refrigerator in the room or whatever, as it ended up being a very pleasant stay and a good value for an NYC hotel.
My stay at FiDi Hotel certainly exceeded my expectations, especially with regard to the hospitable welcome and service I received throughout my stay. Lauren and the rest of the front desk staff I interacted with were pros! The breakfast was more than adequate and the two complimentary bottles of water each day were greatly appreciated. I chose this hotel almost exclusively for the location. The photos of the room on the website accurately captured the look and feel, so I knew what to expect. I don’t love carpeted hotel rooms, and there was not a lot of natural light because of where my assigned room was located. Next time I’ll request one with better light. I’ll definitely be back.
Very rude and difficult front desk person checked me in, late in the evening. He was extremely slow and kept stating that he has to spend a lot of time on the computer doing the check-in even if the entire reservation is pre-paid. This took 20 minutes at 12 midnight. Terrible and a horrible way to arrive at a hotel. Also there is a $30 "destination fee" added onto the hotel rate. The room had black carpet and is very small. Terrible lighting and hard to see. There is NO daylight even on the 28th Floor, and a view onto office workers in a shaft/light well across from the room. The shower has a low curb and shower curtain. Upon taking a shower, the entire bathroom flooded with 1.5" H water all over the bathroom floor. This is bad design and clearly does not work. The only somewhat decent thing is that this hotel is close to the subway, but in the Financial District of Manhattan all subways are closely as the bottom of Manhattan narrows down. As a Google Local Guide, I recommend finding a good deal on the internet to stay at The Wall Street Hotel which is far superior at a slightly higher price (very much worth it). The management did NOT resolve anything despite the note here that says that they provided compensation for the stay (not true).
