I'd wanted to come for a while after hearing a passing couple praise the food in the High Street. All too often these days high priced pub food is mediocre, and the menu here is on the more expensive side. Was it worth it? Absolutely! I have never eaten prawns as flavorsome and juicy for a starter. The sausage mash main too was full of flavor and delicious and the red wine also had a good body. It joins the handful of places I would say the memory of the food is unforgettable and for that it gets full points. The service too was quick and friendly, would 10/10 recommend.

We did not stay here, but I ate here twice in my three day visit. It was very friendly, especially for a pub in a tourist hot-spot, which is used by a great many locals and regulars. The food is superb if you have the steak pie, delicious, and filling. It's too much to have a pudding as well as dinner. My wife had the salmon salad and was slightly disappointed as it was a very English salad, just lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber. It was nice but dull. On the upside, she had room for a pudding. Lemon tart with raspberries, raspberry ice cream, and meringue. Which was "absolutely delicious" The beer is great, I had Ram Tan by Timothy Taylor brewers, and it is fantastic. Black as pitch, smooth as silk.

A really excellent pub. The beer was Timothy Taylor's at its very best. Likewise the food was absolutely superb. Good chips, runny eggs and not too salty gammon. Very good portion size too, and so very good value for money. Very highly recommended, indeed.
