I would say this is the best hotel I've been to in Italy and I'm surprised to have found it in Florence. The hotel is massive and on your way in, you'll understand why it's called "The Gate". Lovely service. Complained of mosquito and a solution was provided immediately. Only hotel that offered complementary water. Room is massive snd toilet is clean. There's 1001 reasons to love this place. The downside is the location. It's located on a regional road so navigation was hectic and it's very, very far from the city centre. I dragged my bag across the highway which was a downy. Asides that, best hotel experience so far
The room was fine. The outside of the windows had not been cleaned for about 10 years. The lifts are always a long wait, even though there are two, they are very small ,the hotel is big, they are in constant use. Groups have priority at breakfast, they have more choice. The two hot dishes, bacon and eggs were cold. The staff order the pastries by hand. Acceptable for transit passengers.
We were honestly thankful we only had a one-night stay here. Our group arrived in the evening with some time to freshen up before coming back down for a group dinner. The rooms we found were dingy, hot, and dark, which was a stark contrast to the modern and light lobby we had left. The bathrooms were clean and spacious though, which was a plus. Our evening meal that night was at the attached restaurant to the hotel, and it was honestly stellar. The food was great and the drinks were cheap, making it the highlight of our stay. Because it was not late enough in the year to turn on the AC, our night's sleep was uncomfortable. The rooms were hot, but if you opened the window you let in mosquitos, which I found out too late. I had the window open during dinner to cool the room off, but closed it before bed. The night was still uncomfortable and I left the hotel with 8 mosquito bites in the morning. The breakfast the next morning was also disappointing. The set up caused long lines, meaning many from our group only had 10 minutes to eat after getting their food, even though they arrived downstairs when breakfast began. The options were also lacking and we all left pretty hungry. Overall, the stay left much to be desired, and we were happy to continue the trip elsewhere when we left.
