The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai

We had an excellent stay at the Gateway Hotel in Madurai with my family. The ambiance of the location and the traditional room setup, maintained for over 100 years, are exceptional. Our experience was truly unique, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Mr. Ashok, the Accommodation Manager, provided exceptional service, treating us with the utmost kindness and professionalism. I appreciate his guidance and support throughout our stay.

This heritage property overlooking Madurai was once a peaceful, green escape — full of charm and quiet elegance. Over the years, it has lost its greenery and sadly, its grace. The place now draws in a crowd that doesn't quite respect the space — loud, ill-mannered groups that completely throw off the experience. It’s disheartening to see such a beautiful spot lose its soul.

Everything here is a disaster. The F&B falls short and it is annoying to escalate things to the F&B manager to gets things right. Why not deliver it right the first time without one having to go through a bad experience? All of this after having placed the food order directly with the chef. I feel let down for trusting them to serve me right. It’s sadly the downfall of 5 star properties where nothing seems to work. Second day and the rooms remain uncleaned. Housekeeping also doesn’t seem to work. Bathroom does not have a hand towel. The swimming pool is a free for all. People enter the pool in full dress without showering and the on-site staff just don’t do a thing - disgusting. Wi-Fi is terrible and doesn’t work for the most part. If you have money, do take it elsewhere where it is valued.
