The George in Rye

We spent a long weekend in Rye and loved staying at The George. It’s a stunning yet super-comfortable hotel with amazing spaces to lounge indoors and out on the terrace, the bar staff and restaurant team were amazing, and our room was really lovely and comfortable and well-appointed. Not a single issue, so close to everything and we would definitely stay again!

We’ve been to Rye and eaten at The George a few times but never stayed. For my birthday we took advantage of a rare child free night away to book the Dinner Inclusive stay and we were not disappointed. The team were friendly and attentive, special thanks to Madison front of house. My birthday was made all the more memorable with their extra touches.

Hmmmm. So many things went wrong. Annoying waiter… asked us four times if everything was OK with our meal. He also had a cold… Food - overpriced. Very loud bar staff shouting. And whilst we were in there, LOADS of glasses smashed. made such a racket! Then it happened again! Gasp! Racist women in other table being overly loud. We couldn’t eat outside, so had to stay inside in the dark.. cramped table. When we left, no one said thanks - or goodbye. It was all a bit of a nightmare in all honesty and I couldn’t wait to get out there. Genuinely questioned who’s actually running this place, it’s a shambles. The service charge added is a bit of a joke. Shame, because it’s a nice venue - but I certainly won’t be returning.
