Enjoyed my stay check in was easy, staff was friendly, and the room was clean. Very quiet on my floor and had an excellent view from outside my window. The elevator is a little shaky but what can you expect it's a old hotel. Parking lot does get crowded on weekends starting around 9 pm so if you're just exploring the area nearby just leave your car parked and walk. Recommended places in walking distance near the hotel are Griffs Bar & Grill and Roger Browns great food and reasonable drink prices!
We stayed at the Dinwiddie for a huge EMS event. They are pet friendly and don't discriminate if that concerns you. We have a 70 lb pit bull. He was welcome at the hotel. The surrounding area was a little concerning. We walked down to the docks one morning and felt like we were being observed by the local population. After dropping my spouse off at the docks I was approached by a homeless man asking for change that acted rather suspiciously. After I gave him a dollar and my dog growled at him he moved along harmlessly. Every establishment I went to locally seemed to not care about the customers, restaurants and retail establishments. I cannot believe the service we got at the local Walmart Pharmacy asking for some Mucinex. But the staff at the Dinwiddie was wonderful. I wouldn't trade our experience with them for the world. A front desk lady was obviously worried about my dog but rode the elevator up with us and commented how calm and well behaved he was (he is a training demo dog and used to such situations.) They were always extremely polite with us (dog there or not lol.) Very accommodating. We asked for a late checkout the night before we left and they had no problems obliging. The rooms are outdated, had an old CRT TV with limited channels, thermostat wasn't easy to find, but everything was very acceptable. With the personality of the front desk personnel I would gladly stay again. This is a solid 2 star hotel with a 5 star staff. I loved our stay, the only thing I hated was that we didn't get to try to mexican restaurant downstairs, which smelled delicious. Parking on the weekends leaves a little something to be desired.
Arrived at the hotel and there was no parking spaces in the hotel lot because the patrons from the surrounding clubs park there. The lobby is old an shabby. The elevators are filthy. The halls are not air conditioned so the humidity and smell aren't the greatest. The rooms are ok, however, I stayed three nights and my room was not made up once. When I arrived home I noticed I had a bite on my arm (not a mosquito) . The only good thing is the people working the front desk. They were very friendly.
