We had a wonderful stay at The Grand Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming. Every interaction with the team felt professional yet personal. We stayed in one of the suites and were very happy with the space, comfort and overall presentation. The room was beautifully designed, well maintained and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location is excellent — right by the beach, which made it ideal for morning walks and easy access to the seafront. A truly enjoyable experience. Elegant surroundings, thoughtful service and excellent attention to detail. Highly recommend and would happily return.
Lovely hotel and excellent spa. strange that you can only book 2 nights over a weekend directly (including calling) but can book 1 night via other websites. Apart from that, the Spa team were excellent and checking was a breeze (room was ready early!). I have seen lots of comments about the hotel being run down - I have yet to see any sign of that. It's probably not "5 star luxury" but still very nice.
OK we booked a suite just over the tennis weekend. The suite was extremely tired, worn, not the experience or standard we were expecting. It was incredibly dated, stains on the carpet and there was rips in all the sofas. The windows rattled and it was not 5 star at all. We paid a hefty £645 per night at a special rate and stayed for 4 nights for what we thought would be an exceptional stay. There is no air conditioning in the rooms and you only receive on portable fan per room - when asked for another one as we had a suite and there were a few of us we were told none available. Staff were polite and service was OK, ordered room service which was cold. The breakfast in the mornings was fine.. not exceptional. For the experience we were paying for this really fell below the mark and certainly wasn't worth the cost. We have stayed at 5 star hotels before and this most certainly is not one. The building is historic and has lovely high ceilings but the hotel needs an urgent update and refurbishment. For the prices they are charging guests and the experience - a total rehaul of the rooms including their expensive suits should be first on their agenda.
