Stayed for a night due to office get together in 2024. Rooms were clean and spacious and equipped with all necessary appliances and items. Bathrooms offered some hi end experience, including a bathtub which my kid enjoyed a lot. Service was superb, they were working closely with our company personnel and we didn't have to run around to fix issues or restock food items in our event. Food items available in buffets were really good and had range. Location wise, you can see some nice views of the Kandy city and green mountains. Has a big swimming pool with a deep end of 6ft+. Overall enjoyed our stay and recommending to others.
First impressions are of a grand genteel hotel from the British colony days. The magnificent grand entry foyer opens onto a big very opulent lounge area with small bar. As is common in SL hotels bars are understaffed with inexperienced staff. Service even for the simplest item is slow. Group orders will die waiting. The huge pool bar on level 5 again no staff and a 15 minute wait for drinks is common even if not busy. I suspect its a cultural thing, speedy service is not top of mind unless its to pay the bill then multiple people catch you. Rooms are spacious, bright and heavily decorated in the Raj colonial style. The bathroom was partially renovated with a new shower recess but toilet and seat very original. Beds are very comfortable and linen is first class. There is a complex control box on the bedside table to operate lights air con etc. its awful to use and cant be seen in the dark and need to be thrown out. Bar prices are plus tax and plus service so add 28%. As tourism increases so will services like this. Sri Lanka highlands is the place to go.
The hotel features an impressive facade and a grand entrance; however, the interior leaves much to be desired. The rooms appear very worn, with peeling wallpaper, signs of mould on the walls, and a noticeable mildew odour. Additionally, the buffet offered is quite limited in options. Overall, does not meet the expectations of a 5-star hotel and would be better categorized as a 2-3 star.
