It's a great place to stay when visiting York! It's located just a few minutes walk from the train station if one is coming from London or elsewhere. It's a very majestic looking building and the inside is very nice as well! We stayed in the new part of the hotel which is supposed to be nicer. The room was very nice and large with a comfortable bed and a good size bathroom. They also have a fabulous multi course restaurant that serves amazing food. So all in all, it was a great experience!
It’s a wonderful hotel and our second visit. The room was large and comfortable, bed was great. We had a separate toilet room with sink which was handy. We didn’t like the pillows which were so overstuffed that I had a neck cramp. Their breakfast was a buffet plus you could order off the menu, it was all first class and delicious.
The Grand Hotel in York is a beautiful and historic property with spacious rooms and very large bathrooms and showers. The building itself has charm and character, and the staff were welcoming and polite throughout our stay. The breakfast buffet was great, offering a wide variety of options, and valet parking was a convenient bonus. Overall, I liked the hotel and would still recommend it, but with a few important caveats. We had booked three rooms for a one-night stay. At around 2 AM, water suddenly began flooding from the ceiling directly onto our bed, soaking the ceiling, walls, floor, and all of our belongings. It was a shocking and extremely distressing experience, especially for my 10 year old child. To our surprise, only two staff members were present in the entire hotel overnight, one managing the flood and the other telling me I had to wait in the lobby. I had to move all of our luggage and personal items myself to another room in the middle of the night, with no assistance provided. What made things worse was the lack of follow-up or concern from hotel management. No one reached out in the morning to apologize or offer any form of resolution. I had to personally go to the front desk and explain what happened. After some back-and-forth, they agreed to waive the charge for one of the rooms, which felt more like the bare minimum than a gesture of goodwill. They even hesitated to offer complimentary breakfast to make up for the situation. Accidents happen, but the way a hotel responds is what truly defines five-star service. In this case, the response fell far short. This is a lovely hotel, but based on our experience, it does not deliver the standard of service expected from a true five-star establishment.
