The Great Northern Hotel

A Wonderful Return to the Great Northern Hotel After not visiting the Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran, Co. Donegal for over five years, I was genuinely taken aback by how beautifully modern and refreshed the hotel is following its extensive refurbishment. It’s clear a lot of thought and care has gone into every detail. The bathrooms deserve special mention — absolutely immaculate, with stylishly tiled walls and floors and luxurious walk-in showers that added a real touch of class. The pool area was warm and inviting, and the sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi were the perfect way to unwind at the end of a long day. Although I didn’t play this time around, the golf course looked to be in fantastic condition. The typical misty Irish coastal weather only adds to the charm — giving it that authentic, rugged golfing experience. Inside, the lobby and other relaxing areas were spotless and inviting, with panoramic views of Bundoran and the coastline that truly elevate the atmosphere. The buffet-style breakfast was plentiful and ensured a hearty start to the day. The bars, with their leather and wood interiors, offered a different yet equally comfortable vibe compared to the main lounge. All in all, it was a wonderful stay. The hotel exceeded my expectations in every way, and I’ll definitely be back — hopefully much sooner this time

I don't understand people who complain that the hotel is dated. Of course it's dated, it was built to be a railway hotel. It is charming and beautiful and much better preserved than many of it's vintage. Rooms are clean. Food is great. Scenery is outstanding. Staff are friendly, professional and efficient. If you want modern and soulless, stay at a Hilton.

Great Hotel. Family Room great size 2 Adults 3 Kids. WiFi not great but can get over that! Kids loved pool. Love the Reception Area great spot to sit and have a few drinks great views of golf and funfair. Lovely Bar Area Great Food and Great Staff!
