Got married here in 2013 and just spent our 12th weekend here to celebrate our anniversary. European vibe in the Fox River Valley they capture everything serene and romantic of a night in Paris. The spirit of Paul Ruby lives on.

What a pleasant surprise. Seriously, if you are looking for a low-key, romantic, relaxing getaway with your partner/love, this is the place. It's nestled in the greatest area - surrounded by water and great places to walk. They have great restaurants nearby/walking distance (shoutout to Tia Carmen - the best mexican restaurant). I stayed in Room 300. Love the jacuzzi tub and having a balcony that faces the water was a plus!! The only complaint - we pulled back the curtains to go on the balcony but the door was surrounded by bugs. It must have been a hole in the screen. We opened the door anyway and went on the balcony where it was surrounded by spider webs and additional bugs. It seemed like the cleaning didn't extend to the balcony. Needless to say, bugs were in our room because of this (on the ceiling, in the bathroom, etc.). The front desk/customer service was amazing! Very welcoming and we loved their energy. We will definitely be back.

We stayed just 1 night, and the hotel was certainly convenient to Downtown Geneva. I think the hotel was probably pretty nice in its day, but now seems very dated. There's a musty smell throughout most of the hotel. We reserved an upscale room, so it had a nice view of the river. But the room lighting was extremely dim, and the thermostat did not work at all. No matter if we turned it up, down, or OFF, the room stayed at a chilly 66 degrees. When I told the front desk about that, I could tell they had heard it before and simply said "OK I'll tell maintenance." We had brunch at the restaurant, food was just OK, albeit pricey. But the shocker was: when I told the server that there was a bug embedded in the ice cube in my water glass, he simply smiled and said "I'll get another." What? No apologies for that??? The staff seemed to have been trained to be polite and pleasant, but the smiles seemed forced and plastic. They didn't seem to like working there. It's a shame. When you are paying about $350 a night, seems like it should be a more enjoyable experience.
