I took my wife there for a Birthday lunch. Booked in advance but when we arrived we were told that there was no booking? That's a good start! Fortunately they were not that busy so we got a table. Menu had a lot of high forluting words on but it was basic food. Burgers, pie, sea bass. Usual stuff but reading the menu it sounded posh. Staff looked dishevelled. One man looked as though he had slept in his shirt for a week ! Food average, service average. But nice surroundings, oldie worldie a d twee. Some mightily bit "dated". We used restaurant not hotel part. So i cannot comment on rooms. We did enjoy ourselves though. If you like that sort of thing, then go and see for yourselves, I would recommend if only for the atmosphere. Have a nice visit!
Lovely venue, especially when the sun is shining and you can sit out on the large terrace. Good selection of beers, and enjoyed a well kept pint.
We just moved locally and decided to try out the Jug and Bottle for a change. We were really impressed, the food was divine and our waiter Euan was so friendly and polite. We immediately booked for a family occasion, when we had relatives visiting from Swansea. This time our experience was the opposite end of the scale. Our waitress was so rude- didn't get her name, short dark hair- the minute we sat down (on time) she asked where the rest of our party were, I said they were on their way and wouldn't be long. She then asked how long they would be, I said I don't know. She said again well will they be long because we need the table back. We had literally just sat down on time for our booking. I again said I don't know, I could try calling them. She stayed stood by the table waiting for me to call them, then asked if I could order for them. I was annoyed at this point- our booking was for 1pm and it wasn't even 10 past by this point, but I'd been asked repeatedly where the other 2 where, if I could call them and what they wanted to eat. I'm afraid I was very abrupt at this point and said I don't know what to tell you because the whole situation was ridiculous. The last 2 of our party of 6 arrived then and we ordered straight away because we didn't dare let them peruse the menu! After our previous lovely meals, this one was a let down. The roast potatoes were awful and it just wasn't to the same standard. We haven't been back since, taking our custom to the Devon Doorway, The Manor and the Fox and Hounds instead.
