One of the best hotels I stayed in Shanghai! Loved the staff! Loved the amenities! Loved the room! Loved the location! It’s nearby all the main shopping malls! You will never get bored! Staff were courteous! I asked them for help for most of the places to recommend.
My recent stay at The Langham, Shanghai, was fantastic! The staff truly made the difference; every single person was warm, polite, and eager to assist. Chuck, who handled our check-in, quickly secured two excellent rooms for my parents and me on the same floor, both with fantastic views of Xintiandi. On a rainy checkout day, Andy was incredibly kind and skillfully guided my Didi driver to the driveway, saving me from getting wet. Despite being mute, his helpfulness shone through. The hotel's location is superb, offering easy access to numerous shops and a nearby subway station. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Chuan Spa, visiting it twice during my trip to Shanghai. However, the lobby felt a bit busy, with a significant amount of space dedicated to the bar and restaurant. While the breakfast offered a wide array of options, the taste was merely okay (though hotel breakfasts rarely impress me). Upon entering my room, I noticed an unpleasant odor, but the staff promptly sent an air purifier and sprayed room scent after I reported it.
Unfortunately it seems a years time can make quite a difference and I do not recommend a stay at this hotel. My partner and I had a nice stay one year ago- our experience was so memorable that we decided for the final stop on a family vacation to China we would bring the whole family one year later. Our group was a party of eight people- each staying for 5 nights in a total of 4 separate rooms. We chose the Langham in Shanghai with the hopes that we would end our trip with an exceptional experience and we were let down from arrival. All of our rooms were on a very low level- we politely asked for higher floors and our receptionists curtly said nothing could be done.Although this was a mild disappointment , we quickly moved on as my family is amicable overall. Unfortunately that was just a preview of the rest of the lackluster experience. Upon arrival to my room I was immediately locked into the sliding door restroom- maintenance staff was sent quickly to fix the room but I was clearly frustrated and angry after the check in process already. We were then offered to move to a room on a higher floor which we accepted as we had plans to attend to quickly. While en route to our room I was already feeling somewhat guilty as it is not in my nature to be demanding or complain however by this time the rest of my family was letting me know that their rooms situations were even worse with broken equipment, brown marks on the walls and hanging wires ( see pictures attached). We arrived at our new room which was smaller- we were also given a bowl of fruit. No other consolation was offered - admittedly I did not for anything further because I did not see the utility of continuing to receive poor treatment and I am not a beggar. Finally, in the lobby/lounge area my family was repeatedly asked to sit in the corner or undesirable seats over the course of the 5 night stay. We eventually just ignored requests to move seats as we could see no reason to comply and no other ( caucasian) guests seemed to receive this treatment. Aside from all of the obvious reasons we were disappointed with our stay it would be clear to anyone that the overall facilities are outdated and in disarray. All staff within the restaurant, doormen and cleaning staff were kind and pleasant and in no way would I want my review to reflect on their perception. We will be returning for Shanghai for years to come but definitely not staying at this establishment ( or any other Langham hotels) and obviously I would not recommend it as a consideration for other travelers.
